Recognition of Prior Learning Mapping to CASE Standards Q&A's
Are there any hint and tips for mapping international qualifications?
Good documentation is the key. Often a transcript will not allow you to fully map against CASE standards and therefore the applicant may need to provide additional information such as programme
handbooks, module handbooks, syllabus and possibly even timetables, assessment methods and hours of learning, so that you can map correctly. Online CPD certificates should not be considered evidence
of qualifications.
You should ensure that you fully complete RPL mapping for each individual. Courses can change and therefore assumptions cannot be made based on
past RPL.
Clearly documented processes are important to provide clarity and feedback
to applicants.
Is there a requirement for external examiner involvement in reviewing
RPL cases?
CASE does not stipulate this is necessary although you should involve them if you are setting up a new RPL process.
As RPL should go through module or assessment boards, external examiners should have some oversight of this.
Some universities shared that external examiners are involved in the RPL process and it may be useful to ask for their advice in complex cases.
Can you use RPL for an undergraduate degree?
At this stage, CASE recommend that RPL is not appropriate for an undergraduate degree, as this is the entry level qualification and therefore it is not necessary to RPL anybody onto the degree or degree apprenticeship programme.
RPL from a BSc(Hons) qualification cannot be used for credits towards a postgraduate award.
